Ibolya (which means 'forget-me-not') is located just around the corner from where I am located, on the Binnen Oranjestraat, in-between the Haarlemmerdijk and Brouwersgracht in Amsterdam. I walk past their shop almost daily and admire their unique dress designs. Ibolya was set up by two friends Iby Csanyi Fritz and Maaike Bartman.
I'm always on the look out for new natural products, and recently came across this Dutch brand, Mas Newen, whilst doing my weekly food shop at the Organic Noordermarkt (Saturday's) in the Jordaan District of Amsterdam. I then met with Ari, one of the guys working at Mas Newen to find out more about the brand.
Lets start at the beginning, for people like myself, becoming a smoker was a lot easier than quitting. Quitting cold turkey really proved time and again that it was not working for me; every time I would try I would slip, I would feel useless and I would be back where I started. I found out, over time that quitting, unlike starting, is a process, and in my case quitting took (a lot of) time.
It's starting to feel like Spring, so it's time to show you some of Asquith'sSS17 collection that is available to buy in Infnti, Amsterdam. This season was influenced by Asquith's founder, Alice Asquith and her early childhood memories of British Summer's in Cornwall. The colour palette of blues, creams, stone and tonal pinks describe the rugged coastline and beauty of Cornwall. The collection takes you effortlessly from your yoga mat, to lunch dates with friends to relaxing at home with your favourite book.
Last week I was lucky enough to attend the first 'Pop-up Restaurant' event hosted by Your Event Planners. The concept was out together by three friends, Walifa, Stijn and Tobias, who wanted to come up with some cool events in Amsterdam. These range from celebrations, tournaments, corporate events and the Pop-Up restaurant.
I recently came across this brand of natural soy candles whilst on my travels. I had been on the hunt for a good quality soy candle for a while and now I've found it! Munio Candela was created in 2008 by Dexter and Elina, with the mission to give people back the power of nature and generate warmth and light in people's homes. In Latin 'Munio Candela' means 'the most spiritually powerful candle'. Each candle is lovingly made by hand using only 100% natural soy way and aromas. They are produced in Latvia and boxed in recycled cardboard in order to reduce the negative impact on the environment. Also no lead is used in the natural cotton wick so they burn toxin free!
I have decided to start writing about some of my favourite natural beauty products, with a new one featured each month. I had to start off with my overall favourite at the moment, the Dr. Alkaitis Ogranic Ageless Facial Elixir. This is a product that I use on a regular basis with my clients and love the results. It does happen to be the most expensive skin product that I use but I feel it is totally worth the money you pay, it's all about quality! Also only a small amount is needed a couple of times a week, rather than it necessarily being used daily.
This lovely handmade cork yoga mat is my latest sustainable find in Amsterdam. I had never seen a yoga mat made from cork before and was surprised by how flexible the material was. Also, it is100% natural and the cork is collected and used in an environmentally friendly way, reducing the need for plastic or artificially made mats and other items. The mat is so soft to lie on and is non-slip, without that feeling of being 'stuck' that some yoga mats have. You can also spray your mat with water for some extra grip during your workout.
