Bouclème Curly and Wavy Hair Products 2024.
My Bouclème Experience and Review.
As you may know, I started my curly hair journey in August 2019. Since then I have tried many of the popular curly hair brands but only small few have made it onto my permanent shopping list. Bouclème is one of the few that has and let me tell you why. Bouclème was one of the very first product lines I tried and I still use at least one of their products every wash day. Bouclème is a British hair care company that specifically sells curly hair products and accessories. One of the most important things about Bouclème is that all their products are free from silicone, sulphate, mineral oils, artificial colours or fragrances and are paraben free. Knowing which products to use for your curly or wavy hair can be complicated and I always just used ‘regular’ shampoo and conditioner and no styling products for most of my life. However, since reading more about curly/wavy hair I’ve realised I need to be a bit more specific to the products and ingredients that I put on my hair. My hair is long, medium density and low porosity so I use products to suit this type of hair. Below if my Bouclème curly/wavy hair routine!
My Bouclème Curly Hair Routine.
Step 1. Boucleme Cleanser.
Picking the right cleansing products for your curls/waves is key. I use the Bouclème Hydrating Curl Cleanser to clean my scalp and my roots (where there is the most dirt and build up). The Bouclème Hydrating Curl Cleanser is a low foaming cleanser suitable for lighter hair types or normal to oily scalps. Sea Salt boosts volume and blood circulation in the scalp promoting healthy follicle growth. This can also be used for deep cleansing if you are regularly co-washing and/or using oils and hair butters, whilst boasting a natural glossy shine. I distribute 4 blobs of the Bouclème Hydrating Curl Cleanser (very accurate measurement I know on the front, sides and base of my scalp and massage in with either a forward/backward or side-to-side motion (circles can cause tangles). I then use two blobs of the Bouclème Curl Cleanser to the rest of my hair and distribute by using my fingers to comb through the lengths. I then rinse both products out well. The Bouclème Curl Cleanser is a non-foaming cleanser suitable for all hair types. It’s a cream based cleanser that cleans the hair without stripping away moisture, leaving curls with maximum hydration. The Bouclème Curl Cleanser can be uses all over with people with thick curls or very dry hair. There is also a Bouclème Unisex Hydrating Shampoo which is similar to the Bouclème Hydrating Curl Cleanser but with a slightly more subtle scent and works great for the curly man in your life!
Bouclème also have another curl cleanser which is a bit more like a co-wash or conditioning cleanser. I personally prefer to use the hydrating curl cleanser first and if want to do a second cleanse then use this one.
Once a month I use the Bouclème Scalp Exfoliating Shampoo to give my scalp a really good cleanse. The Bouclème Scalp Exfoliating Shampoo contains hydrogenated castor beads to gently exfoliate and stimulate hair follicles for healthy growth and removing dead skin cells. The uplifting properties of Spearmint and Grapefruit, combined with soothing Marjoram, will invigorate your scalp with a cool tingly sensation.
Step 2. Boucleme Conditioner.
Conditioning is the most important step of caring for curly and wavy hair. Lack of moisture can lead to dry looking hair and breakage. I use 4 blobs of the Bouclème Curl Conditioner after cleansing. I avoid the root area and apply from the base of my scalp down to the ends. I then rake my fingers through to detangle my hair of any knots. The Bouclème Curl Conditioner provides a good slip to avoid any breakage and is suitable for all hair types. I leave the conditioner on for around 10 minutes while I complete my other shower time tasks! Then I rinse out the conditioner with cold water to help close my hair cuticle to reduce frizz. The unique formulation penetrates deep into the hair cuticle, replenishing much-needed moisture without weighing down curls. There is also a Bouclème Unisex Curl Conditioner in a slightly less feminine bottle and more subtle warm aromatic fragrance.
Step 3. Stylers.
I leave my hair as wet as possible after rinsing my conditioner and apply my stylers whilst still in the shower (to avoid dripping product on my floor) Firstly I apply a small amount of the Bouclème Curl Cream to the mid to ends of my hair using praying hands and then scrunching up towards my roots. Next, I divide my hair into two sides and add a small amount of the Bouclème Curl Defining Gel again with praying hands method and then scrunching. The Bouclème Curl Defining Gel has a serum like consistency making it easy to apply and distribute through your hair evenly. It helps to make your curls or waves smooth and more defined without them feeling crunchy or sticky. It does dry to leave a light cast around your curls which is easily scrunched out to leave soft curls or waves. There is also the Bouclème Unisex Curl Styling Gel option as well. If I want an extra strong hold then I add some of the Bouclème Super Hold Styler for some extra definition once dry. This gel dries with a harder cast which is ideal for holding loose waves/curls and kinky coily curls. I then wrap my hair in the Bouclème Curl Towel (which is partly made from organic cotton) and helps to dry my hair without causing frizz. After about an hour I either remove the towel and let my hair air dry or I diffuse it upside down.
Step 4. Treatments.
Hair treatments are a vital part of keeping your curly or wavy hair hydrated. I use a deep treatment once a week to add moisture to my hair. The Bouclème Intensive Moisture Treatment is a rich hair mask with a powerful and rejuvenating formula protects against environmental stressors, prevents breakage and reduces tangling. It helps with curl definition, balances moisture levels and overall hair health, flexibility and manageability are vastly improved! I coat my hair in the mask using my fingers to make sure it is evenly distributed then put my hair in a shower cap and cover with my Heat Cap for around 30 minutes. I then rinse well and style as normal. You can leave the hair mask on for longer than this though if you wish. I also use the Bouclème Revive 5 Hair Oil in between washes to add some moisture and protection to the dryer ends of my hair which seems to help with reducing split ends (especially in Winter when the friction from wool clothing can cause damage to my hair).
My recommendation if you are not sure which products are best suited to your hair type would be to do as I did and buy one of the travel or gift sets first. That way you can try some of the products and see if you like them before purchasing the full sized product. The Bouclème Complete Discovery Gift Set would be a good place to start. The Flairsol Mist Spray Bottle is also a must have for refreshing curls in between washes.
I hope this help a little with deciding if the Bouclème range is one you would like to try. If you have any questions please leave them in the comments section below!
