I find it funny how this image of swimmer Michael Phelps is one of the most talked about photos from the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The number of news articles written about cupping since he was spotted with cupping marks is huge. Everyone is talking about this 'cupping thing'. My physiotherapy clients keep asking me 'what's this cupping thing that athletes are using at the Olympics?' We are all so influenced by other people, whether its wanting to look like them or wanting to copy the products they use. All I can say is that I'm almost 100% sure Michael Phelps does not receive any money for endorsing cupping. Because there is no money in cupping, or any other holistic health therapy, not the kind of money anyway that would be able to pay sponsorship, but enough to make a living out of if your good at it. None of us would even know he used cupping if it weren't for the fact that if leaves marks on the skin for a few days, though I do know he has posted on social media about it in the past. Heres a guy who makes millions (his approx. net worth is 44 million) promoting brands such as Under Armour, Speedo, Head and Shoulders, Kellog, Omega watcher etc, has probably some of the best medical experts and sports scientists on his team, but yet he chooses to use a form of Traditional Chinese Medicine to aid his recovery after training or competitions. So there has to be something in it right?

Read MoreI made my entry into this world via an emergency Cesarean section (AKA C-section) and more and more women are opting for planned C-sections for various reasons. However, currently I don't feel enough hands on treatment it offered to improve the healing of the scar tissue itself. I think physiotherapists do a great job with the core stability advice, postural advice and pelvic floor strengthening but currently there is not enough hands on treatment of the actual scar and surrounding scar tissue (the scar tissue is much more widespread than the scar you see on the surface of the skin). Restrictions in the scar (adhesions) can cause a lot of pain, restricted movement, digestive issues and potential problems with further pregnancies. Doctors aren't well equipped with solutions and tend to give the same old 'just give it time to heal' advice to most women.

Read MoreAfter working in health-care for over ten years, I am still always surprised by how few people actually know the basics about their own health. Much of this information can be found out easily with no cost, but still most clients who walk through my door have no idea of simple aspects of their health, such as how much they weigh or their resting heart rate.
Read More'Bloggers Back', otherwise known as 'Text Neck' are keeping physiotherapists in business but the full scale of the problem is not yet known. The terms are used to describe neck or back pain sustained from looking down at your phone, iPad or laptop screen too frequently or for too long. These repetitive activities done every day can wear down the spine, however often people don't develop serious problems until much further down the line.
