Top Cape Town Wine Farms To Visit This Winter 2024.
Cape Towns Best Wine Farms.
Cape Town, South Africa, is known for its stunning natural beauty, diverse cultural heritage, and excellent wine production. Winter is a wonderful time to visit Cape Town's wine farms, as the vineyards are alive with color, and the temperatures are pleasant for outdoor activities. Whether you're a wine connoisseur or just looking for a relaxing day out in the countryside, Cape Town's wine farms offer a unique blend of history, culture, and wine tasting experiences. In this article, we will highlight some of the best wine farms to visit in Cape Town during the Winter season, where you can taste some of the finest wines in the world, learn about the wine-making process, and soak up the breathtaking landscapes of the Cape Winelands.
Constantia Glen is located close to Constantia Nek at the foot of Table Mountain and only a short drive from Cape Town city centre. It has stunning 360° views and looks picturesque all year round. I personally love the Autumn colours and feel early Winter is the best time to visit! It’s still possible to sit outside on a warm sunny day or if its a bit cooler or raining there is a large selection of tables and seating indoors, with wood burning fires to keep you warm and cosy.
I recently went and participated in their Constantia Glen Flagship Wine Tasting experience and had a lovely meal from their new Winter Menu. The wine and food was amazing, my favourite wine being the Constantia Glen FIVE, and the Flammkuchen and slow roasted lamb shank are a must try. Also, for dessert if you still have a little room, either the delicious Creme Brûlée or if you want a local treat the Malva pudding. The staff are wonderful and cater to any dietary needs you may have. Hopefully you will take a visit there soon!
2. Lanzerac Hotel & Spa.
HOME TO THE WORLD’S FIRST BOTTLED PINOTAGE.
Lanzerac Hotel & Spa is a historic landmark in Stellenbosch dating back to 1692. It’s located in the beautiful and peaceful Jonkershoek Valley on the outskirts of Stellenbosch. Lanzerac is an elegant five-star Country hotel with acclaimed bars, restaurants and Deli, a remarkable tasting venue and a chic day spa.
I visited here recently for Brunch in the Lanzerac Deli on a lovely Autumn Sunday and it somehow turned into an all day event with wine tasting and a chilled gin and tonic by the fire in the restaurant. The Lanzerac Deli has a lovely food menu suitable for all the family and cosy seating both in and outdoors. The Lanzerac Hotel entrance has some lovely cosy seating areas by the fire and the Taphuis restaurant also has a very cost atmosphere whether you are just wanting some even drinks or dinner. I haven’t yet stayed at the Lanzerac hotel or visited the award winning spa but it looks amazing and is on my list to book a stay there one day. This wine farm definitely is a gem to visit in the Winter months as the atmosphere is so cosy, warm and relaxing. Just be prepared to stay longer than you had planned!
3. Babylonstoren.
Babylonstoren is another one of the oldest Cape Dutch wine farms located at the foot of Simonsberg Mountain in the Franschhoek area Cape Town. This farm is a family favourite on the weekends as there is lots to keep children and adults entertained. The beautiful Babylonstoren gardens with vegetables, herbs and fruit surround the property and are very much worth exploring. There are also various shops selling farm and local produce and as selection of food and drink locations. There is also a Hotel and guest cottages available to stay at on the farm. The wine tasting takes place in the greenhouse which has beautiful views across the farm and the mountains beyond.
There are also some amazing workshops that happen at Babylonstoren and I would definitely recommend checking those out and booking well in advance!
4. Haute Cabrière.
The Haute Cabrière farm was established in 1694 by French Huguenot, Pierre Jourdan and was taken over in 1982 by the Von Arnim family for the purpose wine making. This is the perfect location for an afternoon wine tasting or lunch in the restaurant. The views are amazing and I would much recommend a wine tasting here even if just for the views. But best enjoyed on a lovely sunny Autumn/Winter day.
There will be lots more Cape Town blog posts added soon! So keep a look out for those.
